Pursue Purity is about looking to the cross of Jesus and having a pure heart. Hebrews 12:1-2 says…”let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith…”
As Christians, we are on a road that leads to Christ. He is our ultimate goal and He is our pure and holy sacrifice. Throwing off the sin and the darkness that tries to entangle us is vital in helping us to run with all our hearts towards the pure cross of Christ. We must flee every evil desire and let that darkness fall to the wayside.
Instead of having evil desires, we must have pure desires. These desires are righteousness, faith, love, and peace, the radiance and light of Christ. Let’s pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace with all our hearts, as we fix our eyes on Jesus.
The word pursue literally means to run after in order to catch. Pursue doesn’t mean to walk, or to stroll. It’s about our pace and our heart. The word pursue is like a speed limit (sign) and it reminds us to run after Jesus at the highest speed we can, with all our hearts, in order to catch Him. God wants us to pursue Him. He wants us to run with all our might. The cross is at the center because Jesus is our goal. Jesus is our prize and we must pursue Him and all things related to having a pure heart, especially if we want to see God.
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.” (Matthew 5:8)
“Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” (Psalm 51:10)
