Rain is an important symbol in the Bible.  It represents God’s provision and blessing; it also symbolizes the Holy Spirit.  I used to not like it when it rained.  Rain can be wet and cold, dangerous to travel in, cause delays and cancellations of events. Rain makes things inconvenient.  However, rain is refreshing, especially on a really hot day.  Without rain, there would be no flowers and trees; many rivers and streams would dry up.  Actually, we need rain for life.  We filter it for drinking water and use it for cleaning.  Rain is an essential part of our lives.

Standing In His Presence is about receiving God’s rain, receiving God’s Holy Spirit.  He loves to pour out His presence on us.  As Christians in order to receive more of Him, we need to be in the right position.  I think this particular artwork expresses that position and heart.  It’s a whole-heart, open hand and arm desire to be with Him.  There’s an urgency and desperation for having more of God.  I personally want that.  I want to be in a place where I stand in his presence unashamed in open abandonment to Him.

I enjoyed painting this piece and love the symbolism of the rain and how we can open up our whole selves to His Spirit.  He is pouring out and we just need to receive all that God has to give us.  And more than even the blessings we can long for His presence.

If you look above the shadowed person, there is a dove, representing the Holy Spirit.  God is pouring out His Spirit as we reach up to heaven. Rain is a blessing and rain is from God.  The Holy Spirit is a blessing and the Holy Spirit is from God.  Thank you Father for pouring out your presence on us!

I pray God will stir the hearts of our nation and world to want God’s rain and that we will all be Standing In His Presence, the presence of His Holy Spirit.  The result of God pouring out His Spirit is amazing according to Acts.  It says we (His sons and daughters) will prophesy and have visions and dreams!  Pour out your Spirit, Lord; we receive your rain in Jesus name!

“In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.” (Acts 2:17-18)
