Free. It’s a word that makes people happy. In our society there’s free food, free t-shirts, free candy, free music downloads, free coupons, free hugs. Commercialism is full of free promotions – there’s buy one get one free. We love free stuff. It’s fun and exciting, causing us to want even more.
Though our world offers many great things that are free, none of them compare to what God has to offer. The greatest gift anyone could ever want is found in God’s son, Jesus. Jesus is the ultimate gift, free of charge. You don’t even have to buy anything to get Him for free. He’s more than a ticket to heaven. Jesus is a friend, a brother, and the Savior of the world. Because Jesus gave everything, we can have everything. His life was ransomed for our souls. “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free” (Galatians 5:1).
Jesus’ death and resurrection is the key to our salvation. We are free because He has set us free. “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36). Not only are we free, but most assuredly, definitely, undoubtedly, unequivocally, truly, irrevocably, we are free. Thank you Jesus for stepping into our world and laying down your life! Thank you for raising yourself so that we could also be raised to new life-free of sin, free of shame, free of pain, free of fear, free of hate, free of anything that wages war against our soul, mind, spirit, and body. We are free. We are free indeed!
