Fountain of Life is based off of Psalm 36:9-10 (NIV): “For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light. Continue your light to those who know you, your righteousness to the upright in heart.” In the Message, it says, “You’re a fountain of cascading light, and you open our eyes to light.”
When I painted Fountain Of Life at church, I wanted to express God’s glory shining down from heaven and His love being poured out. Amazingly, my pastor at one point during his teaching, shared about both of these things.
The previous verse in Psalm 36 says, “you give them drink from your river of delights” (verse 8) and then goes on to say “fountain of life” in verse 9. A theme of water is present. Also within that same verse is a theme of light. It talks about seeing light inside His light. There’s a flood of light being poured out, like a waterfall (or fountain)!
While thinking about light, I was reminded that Jesus is the Light. In Him there is no darkness. And Satan also is light, however, he’s not the Light. Satan “masquerades as an angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11:14). He is the counterfeit light. The light he gives off looks good but is really deceptive and evil. When people enter Satan’s light, they are actually entering sin and death. Praise God that Jesus is the “true light that gives light to every man” (John 1:9) and in Him we can have freedom and life!
It’s vital that we not be fooled. We must be wise and ask for discernment. We need His guidance and help.
Lord, please help us to “walk in the light, as (you) are in the light.” Then as you promised, we will “have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, (your) Son, (will purify) us from all sin” (1John 1:7).
