“Lift your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.” – Isaiah 40:26
When I first designed Starry Host, I painted six panels – 12″ by 12″ each – and used the Milky Way as my inspiration. It was a lot of fun painting the different colored dust bands of stars and the individual stars in the galaxy. After placing the photo of my painting in Photoshop, it came even more alive with intense bright colors.
Our galaxy is called the Milky Way and is made up of billions of stars. Outside our galaxy according to scientists are what could be hundreds of billions of galaxies. And within those galaxies are also billions of stars. That’s billions upon billions upon billions of stars and even more beyond the galaxies we know. We cannot and will not ever be able to accurately calculate or know the exact number of stars. But there is someone who can count the stars. Our Creator and Lord! He not only knows them by number, because He says not one is missing, but He even names them. That’s a lot of names to remember! God is beyond our understanding, our intellect and our power. He is all powerful and strong- mighty is our God!
How incredible that God knows the stars by name and not one is missing! That reminds me of how He thinks about us. He knows us by name and we are not lost. We are found in Him. Even when we feel like He’s not there, perhaps lonely or depressed, Jesus is reminding us from above:
“You are not missing. You are not alone. If I count the stars, name them, and know exactly where they are, then I do the same for you and so much more!”
“You know when I leave and when I get back; I’m never out of your sight.” – Psalm 139:3 (MSG)
